How to Prepare Your Statutory Declaration
What is a Statutory Declaration?
A Statutory Declaration is a crucial document used to provide evidence in support of your immigration application. It's typically a requirement for the sponsor, particularly when applying for the 820 visa. This document requires you to present in-depth details of your relationship, including living arrangements, as well as the social and financial dimensions that shape it. Remember, the Statutory Declaration is a legal document and must always contain truthful information; any false or misleading content should be avoided.

How Do You Prepare Your Statutory Declaration?
To make the process smoother, you can find multiple templates online. Generally, they include the following:
- Your name, address, and a statement declaring your compliance with the Statutory Declarations Act 1959.
- Your relationship status (de facto, married, partners, etc.).
- The date your relationship commenced and the duration of your togetherness.
- Details on the four key pillars of your relationship:
- The development and nature of your commitment.
- Financial commitments.
- The nature of your household.
- The social aspects of your relationship.
- A declaration affirming the truthfulness of the provided details.
What Should You Include in Each of the Four Pillars of the Relationship?
Development and Nature of Your Commitment:
- When and how you met your partner.
- The progression of your relationship.
- Significant shared life events.
- Your perception of the relationship's long-term prospects.
- Instances of emotional support.
Financial Commitments:
- Joint loans, lease agreements, or bank accounts.
- Individual or joint property ownership.
- Ownership of other significant assets (e.g., cars, businesses).
- Your individual or joint financial resources.
- How you handle household expenses.
- Your financial objectives.
Nature of Your Household:
- How responsibilities for housework and chores are shared.

Note: Remember not to confuse the 'Partner Statutory Declaration' with the Statutory Declaration by a witness (form 888) or the questions regarding the four relationship pillars asked of the applicant.
